Phase One Work at FMRHS Progresses

Renovation work at FMRHS is well underway. As Phase One of the renovation plan progresses, ceiling tiles have been removed in many areas. The administrative wing is seeing structural repairs completed.  New ovens and a new dishwasher have been installed in the kitchen.  Scheduled demolitions of walls and outside structures have been completed.  The installation of new energy efficient windows and boiler are on schedule for this fall.

FMRHS Renovation Phase One

Often as with any renovation project, new repair needs are discovered.  When the high school was constructed in 1966, the outside wall in the girls’ locker room, the outside wall along the vocational wing, a small section in the academic wing, and the back stage wall were not attached to the roof of the building. (The stage wall was repaired early this summer.)

Before the new roof is placed, these walls will be properly secured.  The problem with the wall to roof attachment was revealed when preparations for the new roof were being made. Engineers have inspected the building and found it to be safe for occupancy.  However, it is important for these walls to be attached now while the building is undergoing renovation.

As we move forward with the beginning of school with returning students and staff, safety is of utmost importance.  The district’s clerk of the works, Stan Duda, has worked closely with the contractors and administration to assure that work areas are restricted.

If you have any questions about the construction, please do not hesitate to contact the Superintendent’s office at 826-7756.
